Steven April's Journey to Journey
By Ashley Cook
“Life is a Journey!” It’s one of those cliche things you read and brush off, but know is true. Dictionary.com defines ‘journey’ as “an act of traveling from one point to another.” There is always a point A, and there is always a point B. The grey space between those two points is what makes up the substance of life or when a journey happens.
Brian and Natalie Larson have been running the Journey Program and are gearing up for another round starting in November. “It’s a program designed to move people from glory to glory and into relational wholeness,” Bryan Larson says. Through the power of prayer and relationship, men and women are walked through deep-felt needs and wounds, truly encountering Jesus and who God is, laying hold of freedom.
Steven April, a participant and now leader in Journey, shared what his experience was like with such enthusiasm. As someone deeply committed to the bingo community and the mission at Crossing Life Church, it’s amazing to see the transformation in his life as a result of being part of Journey. It actually hadn’t been on his radar when it came up.
“Deb Silver confronted me, and said ‘I think Journey would be really good for you.’ From that point on the thought stuck in my head and never left me. Then I started asking other people about it, and they were all affirming. They all said it was life transforming.”
And life-transforming it was. It left such an imprint on Steven’s heart and His testimony now boasts of that which has been transformed by Christ. “He purposely made me to be who I am. I wasn’t a mistake or an afterthought or a what-could-have-been. My female attributes, as well as my male attributes, are by design, a complete picture of who I am…” he shared confidently.
“Come on your hands and knees and watch; God will show you who you are. Watch as he shows you his perfect creation in you that has been covered up for so long. Be blown away and recast forevermore.”
When Steven was asked to come back as a leader in the program by Bryan Larson, there was hesitancy. “I told him… ‘I am not fixed, not perfect.’ And he told me ‘you’re right, you’re not. This is the journey. But what you have learned… should be shared with others who are going through what you went through. You have lessons to give. Life to speak into.’”
Steven’s conclusion is, “Journey was sincerely life-altering for me. I can never be the same now knowing who I was created to be.”
